Black Shoes

Do you have any slightly used all-black shoes that are taking up space in your closet? If so, these shoes could enable a student to attend school!

The NOMADS’ black shoe collection originated years ago at a Methodist church in Mercedes, TX, where NOMADS would gather, cross the border, and work with sister churches in Mexico. The area immediately south of the Rio Grande is largely an agricultural area and poverty levels are very high. School attendance provides an important way out of poverty for area children, but the schools require all students to wear uniforms – including black shoes.

That’s where you come in. The shoes can be slip-on, buckle or tie, new or slightly used – just as long as they are solid black. The size range is not important since the shoes will go to children who are in K – 12.

On behalf of NOMADS, we will collect shoes, and then give them, via the UMC in Mercedes, to the children in need in Mexico. Look for a shoe collection box in the Narthex. The deadline to donate black shoes is September 14.
